“Organic visits” can describe different populations depending on the filter. If one month uses the entire Organic Search channel and the next uses only google / organic, the apparent change may come from the definition. Write down which visits belong in the analysis before comparing traffic and indexing.

Understand the dimensions

Source identifies a particular origin, medium describes its type, and channel groups traffic through rules. Google's traffic-dimension guide explains the distinctions. These are related ways to segment activity, not interchangeable labels.

For a Google Search question, source google with medium organic is more specific than a group including other search engines. A broader organic-acquisition question may call for the wider view.

Keep the scope consistent

GA4 includes user-scoped and session-scoped dimensions. Google's scope documentation describes the difference. A person's original acquisition source does not answer the same question as the source of their current session.

When analysing visits within a period, use a consistent session definition throughout the report. Do not silently compare first-user acquisition in one chart with sessions in another.

Build a repeatable view

  • Decide between Google organic and the wider organic channel.
  • Use equivalent date ranges for all series.
  • Record the channel, source and medium values selected.
  • Confirm the property, hostname and project.
  • Annotate changes in tagging or measurement.

Reindexa's Global trend traffic filters help focus comparisons across projects. Traffic comes from Analytics; indexing comes from saved inspection observations. Displaying both in one chart does not make them the same measurement.

Avoid a premature conclusion

Suppose visits rise from 800 to 1,000 while crawled-but-unindexed URLs decline. That temporal pattern is worth investigating. Before assigning a cause, check whether both periods use the same filters, whether demand changed, and whether the additional traffic belongs to the URLs whose states changed.

A tagging change or increased brand demand could affect the interpretation. The chart helps identify questions and direct a review; it does not establish causation by itself.

Label the series with its actual definition. “Google organic sessions” is clearer than “SEO” when that is the metric being shown. Include the dates and filters in your client report, making the comparison understandable and reproducible.
